A diabetologist is a medical professional who focuses on providing care to patients with diabetes. Patients with diabetes often benefit from the specialised treatment offered by a diabetologist who only handles patients with diabetes. Diabetologists normally receive their training in internal medicine or paediatrics, although some are endocrinologists. After receiving initial training, diabetologists receive additional training in diabetes and begin focusing on diabetes care.
