About Radiologist Speciality

A radiologist is a well-qualified medical professional who diagnoses and treats health ailments using radiology technology. For proper and effective diagnosis, radiologists use radioactive substances such as X-rays and digital pictures of patients gathered through various machines and imaging equipment. Radiologists produce X-rays of body parts which need to be diagnosed. As a medical professional, they explain the procedure for radiologic examinations to people such as removal of jewellery and other articles through which the rays cannot pass. To prevent themselves and the patient from unnecessary exposure to radiation, radiologists cover the exposed area with radiation protection devices such as lead shields or reduce the size of the X-ray beam. In addition to prepare patients for the operating procedure, radiologists also keep a track of patient records and make sure the radiology equipment are in excellent conditions. Some radiologists also work in imaging centres where they act as consultants to other doctors.
