Hair transplant is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures in young males. Typically they come requesting for a cure of their fast receding hairline. While there are many non-surgical remedies available, there is none to prevent the inevitable Male Pattern Baldness, also known as Androgenetic alopecia.

Classically they are treated by hair transplant. The conventional technique of hair transplantation is by "Strip method", whereby a strip of hair bearing skin is removed from the back of patient's head and individual hair grafts dissected from it. These micro-hair grafts are then transplanted into the balding frontal scalp of the patient. This leaves a long scar in the back of head with its potential problems like scar hypertrophy, stretching of scar and numbness of back of head due to inevitable division of nerve fibres.

In the modern era all surgical specialities are moving towards lesser invasive surgery. Typical examples are shift from open to Lap Cholecystectomy, Cataract surgery being done by Phaco emulsification and use of Endoscopes and Ultrasound (ESWL) for removal of renal stones.
