Anger is both, a healthy and an unhealthy emotion. We should not keep it within us for a long time, and we should also not let it go overboard and take control of us. If gone out of control, it wreaks havoc on our body and mind, and also disturbs our normal routine. Anger is a way of expressing annoyance and displeasure, and each person has his/her own way of showing displeasure. Some of us get angry at the slightest provocation, while others are brave enough to take things in stride. Physically, anger can lead to problems with blood pressure, digestion, immune system, and circulatory system. Getting angry frequently can cause depression in the person, and can also give rise to suicidal tendency. To control anger and depression, many people take to addictions like alcohol and drugs, which in turn leads to fatal health ailments, and may even give rise to suicidal tendency in the person.

How to deal with anger issues peacefully

Anger has no specific reason. An ugly fight with spouse or neighbour, things not done our way, stress due to a tiring job, annoying people, can all make us angry and feel bitter about life. On some occasions, anger goes beyond our control, and we overreact, verbally or by doing some physical harm. Each one of us has gone through this, right? If things are going beyond your control and you are throwing things around the house everyday for silly reasons, now is the right time for you to learn anger management. Here are a few tips that will help you.
  • Patience is the key to all anger problems. If something is not going the way you had planned, don't get angry and overreact. Just be patient and calm about the situation. Allow things to settle with time, and always remember that time has the ability to heal everything. Patience also gives the strength and courage to face any situation, so practice being patient in any situation, and the anger would automatically ward off with time.
  • When you are in the state of anger, before reacting, just sit quietly, close your eyes and start breathing deeply. Concentrate on your breathing pattern and think about the good things in life. Eventually, you will forget the reason for your anger. Meditation and yoga have many good techniques to make you feel happy and good about yourself.
  • No matter how tough the situation is, smile! A smile has proven to have a positive effect on the mind and soul, and it energises the mind. Rather than brooding over the situation and thinking negative, you should stay calm and positive.
  • Before anger engulfs you in its vicious web, just escape and engage yourself in some activity. You can spend some quality time with people you like. This strategy drifts you away from the situation and makes you feel better. Else, you can also watch your favourite movie or sports match. The main idea is to take your focus away from the situation that had angered you.
  • Communicate your problem with a friend or someone close to you. When you share your thoughts with someone, you feel light and relieved. Self talk is also very beneficial in controlling anger. Ask yourself to stay calm and quiet. Who knows what is harmful for you than you yourself?
  • If nothing's working, try the old-tested formula of counting numbers. It will shift your focus from the actual thing, and lots of people have actually benefited through this exercise.

Anger is an emotion which should not be kept hidden in the mind and also it should not go overboard in its expression. Remember, life is beautiful and you have to fill it with beautiful moments, and anger is a curse which kills your precious time. Keep smiling!

One of my frnd used to anger a lot and that anger has always made him to do unrealistic things. Then, he went to a doctor and his doctor advised him to do meditation.
