Alfacalcidol is an analogue of vitamin D, prescribed for hypocalcaemia, hypoparathyroidism, hypophosphataemia, renal osteodystrophy, and osteomalacia. Since it does not require any activation process by kidneys like other vitamin D supplements, it is more useful for people who have kidney problems.

Alfacalcidol is normally used to treat and prevent bone conditions that are caused by kidney failure treat illnesses and abnormalities affecting the parathyroid glands which make a substance called the parathyroid hormone correct low levels of calcium in the blood of newborn babies and treat the softening and deformity of the bones due to lack of calcium.


Side Effects

Alfacalcidol may cause certain side effects such as loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and increased thirst, headache, fainting and lack of energy, increased sweating, itching, rash and hives, increased urination, kidney impairment, and excessive urinary calcium excretion.
